An attack on Camp Bastion has caused the death of two Americans and some injuries to those inside the military compound in Afghanistan as well as a certain amount of damage.
Early reports suggest that the assault affected the north east side of the complex, which houses Camp Leatherneck American forces.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: ‘We are aware of an incident that has taken place at Camp Bastion, which is currently being dealt with.’
It is thought that the two Americans that were killed were Marines stationed at the base that acts as a logistics hub.
Servicemen and women from the US, Estonia, Denmark and Afghanistan use the base which is situated in the middle of the desert.
Prince Harry is currently on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan and is based at Camp Bastion, from where he is undergoing training.
The third in line to the throne is learning to fly Apache attack helicopters after returning to Afghanistan last week.
Captain Wales, as he is called in the military will remain in the country for four months.
An Isaf coalition spokesman said: ‘I can confirm there was an attack involving small arms fire. It has caused some injuries and damage.’
